Roots of Nueva Galicia
The foundations of Hacienda San Gisel date back to the 16th century, emerging from the vast lands of the historic Hacienda Cuisillos. From the very beginning, this land became a symbol of agricultural prosperity in the Valley of Tala, known for its fertile soil and deep connection to regional traditions.
This legacy transformed the landscape through the cultivation of blue agave, establishing our place as part of the renowned Tequila Route, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Witness of the Revolution
In 1914, the region’s tranquility was disrupted by the Mexican Revolution. Due to its strategic location, the hacienda became a key point for troop movement and encampment during this turbulent time.
Just a few kilometers away, the Battle of Orendain took place, a decisive confrontation in the revolutionary struggle. Hacienda San Gisel stood firm, serving as a silent witness to the events that shaped the future of western Mexico.
Our Local Legend
Local memory suggests that, after the intense battles of 1914, a nearby area became known among locals as 'Potrero el Muerto'. It represents one of the most intimate ways Mexico’s history is deeply connected to this land.
